How do I join the club?
To join the club, simply fill out our membership application in person and pay the relevant membership fee.
Membership costs:
£15 for your first years membership.
£10 per annual renewal payable by 30th Dec every year.
Family Membership option available at see membership cost.
Your membership provides you with public liablity insurance to sail RC model boats at the club venue.

£20 Family Membership - covers multipal Adults and Children. Children under 18 years old are FREE.
Your membership provides you with public iability insurance to sail RC model boats at the club venue being the Knap Lake. This insurance does not cover you for boat damage of your own or third party boats.
What types of boats are allowed at the lake?
At Barry Model Boat Club, we welcome all types of model boats:
- Steam/Scale/Yachts & Fast Electric.
No IC boats permitted
All boats are to adhere to safety regulations set out in the membership guidance.
Are there age restrictions for membership?
There is no age restrictions for membership at Barry Model Boat Club.
We welcome enthusiasts of all ages to join our community.
We do ask for all Children under the age of 18 to be supervised by an adult.
Is there parking at the lake?
Yes, public parking can be found at the other side of the lake and behind the shops.
However, for members of the club there is parking which gives you direct access to the lakeside.
Access to this parking can be found opposite 20 lakeside which has a drop down post. Members are provided with a key to the padlock at an additional cost of £6.
Notice - To avoid a parking ticket from the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Club Members need to ensure, that they have a valid and upto date membership vehicle badge displayed in their vehicle when parked.
The Club also asks that if you are the first or last member to access parking area that you kindly ensure that the padlock is replaced in the drop down post.
The padlock should never be fully removed or taken by a member.
Any issues with parking, padlock etc should be reported to the Club as soon as possible.

Can you accept online payments?
Unfortunately, we are currently not in a position to accept online payments as yet.
However, we can accept bank transfers/ cash or card payment in person at the Lake on a Sunday via the Club Secretary- Graham
Not sure what boat I want to start with?
Why don't you come along on a Sunday and have a chat with our members they don't bite and will let you have a go so you can decide which type of boat is for you and you can find out an idea of cost.
What day can I sail?
The Boat Club get together as a group every Sunday to sail, meet up, share there wealth of experience, knowledge and skills.
However, once your a member you can enjoy the benefit of attending the lake to sail whenever you wish during the week.
We do ask that you respect other Clubs that use the lake on other days and that you still observe the club rules while at the lake.
Direct lakeside parking available for members at an additional cost of £6 per key.
What if I need help/support with issues relating to my boat?
Our Club members are all very happy to provide help and pass on there wealth of knowledge and experience.
Just come along ideally bringing your boat on a Sunday and the members will point you in the right direction of the best person with the relevant expertise to help you.
If your unable to attend in person then by all means send us an email with your issue and pictures if possible and we will try our best.
What facilities are at the lake?
We have access to public toilets a short walk from the lakeside which there is also a mobile coffee trailer.
I further walk down the other side of the lake you will find a shop, cafe's & chip shop. Cafe's do have toilet facilities for paying customers.
When are the races held?
Can my Children have a go?
The knap and lake is often a place for family fun and walks and of course children enjoy seeing the boats sailing/racing and often then ask to see them and ask questions about them also wishing to have a go.
We welcome everyone at the club and our club members often have spare boats or are willing to give yourself and/or the children a go.
Our members are also happy to answer questions that you or your children might have.
